The additional element I decided to add was a shark. I found it in JPEG form so I had to mask out the white background. I felt that it fit the sea theme and the small size of the shark (because of the lack of space in the lightbulb) makes it feel like the shark is somewhat far and approaching the fish.
Questions:
1. My best image is the one of Luca landing from a jump. You can see from his hair that he is falling, even though his feet aren't in frame. He's also looking directly into the camera, which looks really epic. 2. My least successful image is the one of the shoe falling through the air. The shoe is behind the tree in the photo, so it almost looks like it's stuck on the branches rather than in motion in the air. 3. I could have put the focal point of the camera closer to the subject for the shoe and the cartwheel. This would have resulted in sharper images. 4. My ideal action photography subject would be a basketball player. NBA stars are usually very explosive, so freezing that motion would provide a look at how they move. Before photography, Little was a surfer with years of experience.
I like his photos because they have a lot of pressure; you can feel the wave as it's about to crush you just looking at the photo. I don't like that his work is repetitive. The barrel of a wave can only be so interesting when you've photographed it thousands of times. Little uses a variety of Nikon cameras. He uses a waterproof camera housing to take it into the water. It's not a career I would consider because it is very physically demanding. Those waves are heavy and crash into Little for hours, which seems really painful. |
